Interview with Francesca Battistelli
Francesca performing "Hundred More Years" with her husband
>A lot of our girls are starting to think about their life calling, and how they will serve the Lord. At what point did you realize that this was your purpose/ God's will for you? How did you know this was God's calling for you?
I was in high school when I knew I was called to do what I'm doing. I don't know how I knew, I just knew I was supposed to write songs for Him and He would take me where He wanted me to go. If you are walking closely with the Lord, He will lead you every step of the way.
>Where has your favorite tour stop been? What did you see God do there?
Well, my favorite tour stop was back a few years ago in Hawaii (for obvious reasons!), but I've seen God do some wonderful things all over the country. Every time someone tells me a God story at a concert, I get so excited. He uses music in powerful ways in my life, and I know he uses it in others as well.
>How did you meet your husband?
We met on tour actually! He used to play for NewSong, and we fell in love traveling the country on a big tour called WinterJam. It was a pretty amazing way to have a courtship!
>How has having a family impacted your ministry/singing career?
It's had a great impact! We all travel together as a family, me, my husband, and our two kids. It's definitely a juggling act at times, but we have wonderful people helping us, and we try to take each day at a time. My kids get to have some unique experiences as a result of what we do, and I definitely thank God for that.
>What's been you biggest challenge so far? How has God used that in your life?
My biggest challenges are in my mind. I've struggled with perfectionism and with worry, but every day I try to give those things to the Lord and let Him be my focus.
>Was there a particular day or situation that inspired the song 'Free to be Me?
Yes. I wrote it after backing into a lawyer's car in her driveway. It was not a fun moment, and I was driving home and just started singing the chorus. I finished it when I got home and am still amazed all these years later how God has used that song.
>Do you play any instruments along with singing?
Guitar and a little piano and ukelele.
>Do you write your songs as well as perform them?
>Do you have a favorite song? Why is it your favorite?
Of my own songs, Hundred More Years is really the beat of my heart, and it probably has to be my favorite.
>What are your current projects? Will you be releasing another song / album anytime soon?
I'm in the studio currently working on my third studio album. I am SO excited about it and can't wait to share it with you all!
>Do you have any advice for our girls here a GGFG as they pursue God's calling?
Pursue Him. His calling will follow. Don't worry so much about what you're "supposed" to do. Be close to Him and He will lead you. We have to be quiet in order to hear, and so to hear His voice and learn to recognize it, spend time quieting your heart before the Lord and let Him speak to you or just hang out with you.
>How were you saved? How old were you are the time?
I grew up in a wonderful Christian family and was saved as a child.
