Interview with Kala Schultz - Radio Host / Program Producer
So, I saw some posts on your Facebook with you and some ladies around a microphone - what do you your role - are you the host?
Yes ma'am. I created, produced, and host the show.
Tell me a little about your show.
On the show I always have a guest who I would like to share what God's doing in their life. I also have "Kala's Words of Wisdom," which is how I start the show. It's always encouraging words from people that my listeners can connect with. Then I have the Bible verse of the day. I try to incorporate as much of the Word as I can. I use my own learning and experiences to connect with my listeners. Overall, I would say that my show is a Christ based College radio show.
What are some of the other features of your show?
I basically play what I call "soul music," Which isn't how the term is used today. I play music that is good for the soul. It's rejuvenating, fun, and pure - artists like the Lumineers, Imagine Dragons, The Civil Wars, Band of Horses, and Coldplay. I have a great love for music, definitely more than the Average Joe, so I know how much a song can change someone's day. The whole point if the show is to encourage. I want to encourage all of my peers. I do play Christian songs every now and then, but the point of the show is to reach college students who aren't believers.
GGFG's motto is "Glorifying God and Encouraging Others," so a radio show with a purpose of encouraging others fits right in.
What inspired you to start this?
I have an extreme passion for music and spreading the good news and the Lord just placed me in the path of Paul Crutcher who is my boss at the radio station as well as my advisor.
How do you select your guest speakers?
I just ask friends of mine or people that I believe would be a good candidate. The Lord just works it out every time.
What's the hardest part / biggest challenge you've faced?
Its very hard to keep up with everything while in school. Believe it or not it takes a lot of time to plan, get music, and keep up with school work among the other things I am juggling.
Any advice for other girls who want to make an impact at their school?
I just say prayer and be looking. It is amazing what opportunities God will put in your path if you just ask. Something I did every night was ask the Lord to use me. I wanted to encourage people and tell them the good news. The fact that He gave me this opportunity to also share my love for music amazes me to this day!! comments powered by Disqus
